The Fuzzier Side

Previously a boy who spent 10 years in a vacuum of adolescent irresponsibilities. Most people knows me as an Artist. Lately I have been still trying to figure out who I am and be a better man.

This has become a ReBlog Blog against my wishes

so fellow musician zoe keating just publicly posted up her share revenue for spotify

oceanmaster:

sammneiland:

it goes from the start of this year till the end of march. basically the first quarter of 2012.

her songs have had approximately 40,000 streams.

according to spotify, this only entitles her a profit of $150.

the federal minimum wage per quarter is about $3770.

spotify barely paid her 4% of that.

long answer short.

spotify sucks for musicians beyond exposure.

if you really want to support a musician who’s music you find on spotify, please go buy their album or a t-shirt or something.

Yep, known this for a couple of years now. Basically if you use Spotify, you better recognize why it is important to actually buy the music you’re listening to. It’s cool if you’ve already bought the music, or if you’re using it to check out an album before you buy it (iTunes sucks at that). But if you’re using Spotify and Spotify alone to listen to music, then you better set some coins aside.
